Awesum…. A must see

  Niagara Falls

The image shows the Niagara River that connects Lake Erie to Lake Ontario , snaking around Goat Island , in the lower left of the full image. Most of the river’s water plummets over the Canadian/Horseshoe Falls, but some diverted water spills over American Falls and Bridal Veil Falls downstream. Every second, more than two million liters of water plunges over the Horsehoe Falls segment of Niagara Falls creating one of the world’s largest waterfalls as well as eating away as much as two meters of rock per year. The image.was acquired August 2, 2004

Tsunami strikes the coast of Sri Lanka

This is a natural color, 60-centimeter (2-foot) high-resolution QuickBird satellite image featuring the southwestern coast of Sri Lanka . Imagery was collected on December 26, 2004 at 10:20 a.m. local time, slightly less than four hours after the 6:28 a.m. (local Sri Lanka time) earthquake and shortly after the moment of tsunami impact.

Ground Zero, New York City

This one-meter resolution satellite image of Manhattan , New York was collected at 11:43 a.m. EDT on Sept. 12, 2001 by Space Imaging’s IKONOS satellite. The image shows an area of white and gray-colored dust and smoke at the location where the 1,350-foot towers of the World Trade Center once stood. Since all airplanes were grounded over the U.S. after the attack, IKONOS ! was the only commercial high-resolution camera that could take an overhead image at the time.
Grand Canyon

Northern Arizona and the Grand Canyon are captured in this pair of Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer (MISR) images from December 31, 2000. The above image is a true color view from the nadir (vertical) camera. In addition to the Grand Canyon itself, which is visible in the western (lower) half of the images, other landmarks include Lake Powell , on the left, and Humphreys Peak and Sunset Crater National Monument on the right. Meteor Crater appears as a small dark depression with a brighter rim, and is just visible along the upper right-hand edge.

Malosmadulu Atolls, Maldives

North and South Malosmadulu Atolls are in the Maldives, an island republic in the northern Indian Ocean, southwest of India . The Maldives are made up of a chain! of 1,192 small coral islands, which are grouped into clusters of atolls.. It has a total area of 298 square kilometers and a population of about 330,000. The capital and largest city is Male, with a population of about 80,000. Arguably the lowest-lying country in the world, the average elevation is just 1 meter above sea level. The natural-color ASTER image of the Malosmadulu Atolls was acquired on December 22, 2002, and is centered near 5.3 degrees North latitude, 73.9 degrees West longitude.

Ayers Rock (Uluru), Australia

This IKONOS satellite image of Ayers Rock was collected Jan. 17, 2004. Ayers Rock is located in Kata Tjuta National Park , 280 miles (450km) southwest of Alice Springs , Australia . It is the world’s largest monolith, an Aboriginal sacred site and Australia ‘s most famous natural landmark.

Noah’s Ark Site?

Is it or isn’t it? Satellite images of Mt. Ararat , Turkey have pointed to a possible sighting of Noah’s Ark. Decide for yourself! Compare this image taken by Digital Globe on September 10, 2003 with Shamrock — The Trinity Corporation’s image (enlarge). Also, note their image is flipped.

The Nile River

This image of the northern portion of the Nile River was captured by the Multi-angle Imaging Spectroradiometer’s (MISR’s) nadir camera on January 30, 2001. Against the barren desert of northeastern Africa, the fertile valley of the Nile River runs northward through Egypt . The city of Cairo can be seen as a gray smudge right where the river widens into its broad fan-shaped delta. Other cities are dotted across the green landscape, giving it a speckled appearance. Where the Nile empties into the Mediterranean Sea (top) the waters are swirling with color, likely a mixture of sediment, organic matter, and possibly marine plant life. Farther west! , the bright blue color of the water is likely less-organically rich sediment, perhaps sand.

Earth’s City Lights

This image of Earth’s city lights, captured on October 19, 2000, was created with data from the Defense Meteorological Satellite Program (DMSP) Operational Linescan System (OLS). The brightest areas of the Earth are the most urbanized, but not necessarily the most populated. Cities tend to grow along coastlines and transportation networks. The United States interstate highway system appears as a lattice connecting the brighter dots of city centers. In Russia , the Trans-Siberian railroad is a thin line stretching from Moscow through the center of Asia to Vladivostok . The Nile River , from the Aswan Dam to the Mediterranean Sea , is another bright thread through an otherwise dark region.

Mount St. Helens , Washington

On a Space Station expedition, astronauts observed and captured this detailed image of the volcano’s summit caldera. In the center of the crater sits a lava dome that is 876 feet above the crater floor and is about 3,500 feet in diameter. The dome began to form after the May 18, 1980 eruption of Mount Saint Helens . After the eruption, there was not any dome building eruptions for more than a decade. Afternoon lighting accents the flow features in the volcanic and debris flows and the steep valleys eroded into the loosely consolidated material near the summit. This picture was taken on October 25, 2002

May 23, 2008

Introduction:

this story reveals the personal life of a person in Madurai(Tamil Nadu, INDIA). The person belongs to a poor family. his father was ran away from the family carelessly. His mother took in charge and brought up him up to his success. but in contrast this story reveals the reason, “how did he get the success”

Story

the Schene opening at an town area Hospital, where the hero was born.

A small & poor crew awaiting for the birth of the child.

a screming sound alerts the relatives of the couple, all the sudden (when the clock strucked 2:20 pm) a nurse appears in front of them and greeted for getting a male child for the next generation. the crew fell in merry to get the child, since it was happened after a great & tremendous prayer to their faith.

they brought up the child with great care and affection,  they gave the better education what could they can !!, he also grew with brave, caurage, knowledge and got the education upto “Diploma in Computer Technology“.

In this period, the hero got lot of bitter, better and useful lessons and experience in his life. now the mother was turned old and not able to earn to lead the family, hence the hero take over the charge after a 6 months of time without an interest in life(since he want to enjoy the life as like a Royal fellow). the great comedy was, the hero didnt know any thing about the job profile in which he was going to work, but god’s grace he learned everything because of his talent & help from the collegues.

He had so many freinds, and in contrast his close friends were as follows:

Ramesh (Computer Hardware & Networking Engineer), Vetri_Chelvam (Care taker of his father’s business, Bottle Recycling), Selva_Kumar (Computer Farms, Machine Operator Cum Chief Mechanic), Anandan (Software Engineer, canada), Ilayaraja (Collection Executive Reliance Insurance, India). Kalaivanan (Apparels Quality Controller), Kannan (Decorator), Vinoth Kumar (Admin Window, exchange server), Fairose Khan (Dubai), Daniel Raj (Travels Owner),.

As stated above, his friends are from various life cycle and from various status, though he used to manage some hard situation which could occur rarely.

He struggled a lot to run his family, in this time, he got another one confusion in the form of a Beautiful but cultureless girlfriend(from different religion), in the beginning, he doesn’t know about her and since it was his first love he fell in love very deeply and very honest to her but not she. With great risk and lot of sacrifice he married her, the love life went very sweetly, but for the shake, the sorrow started to him thourgh religionity through his mother-in-law, who seperated them from their lovely love life. More over, she had illegal relation with his cusin brother who  married her sister. because of this worst and bitter experience he got away from her.

In this situation, as a sweet, A friend who studied with him in his polytechnic college got in touch and given his helping hands to the hero. Now after a very dipressed heart the hero migrated to the capital city of the state, entered into a metropolitan life. He looks everything new and admired the metro politan life. since he have some scar in his heart because of his first wife, this time he was careful in approaching the girls moreover the city girls are entirely different from his hometown. His concentration fell completely in achieving the soffistication of life through earning. He worked hard, earned well, settled his local lending problems at his hometown, rejoiced as like a soldier who defeated the enemy in the war (even though the achievement is very low). He admired and entertained every moment. He thought he have came across his sorrows successfully. he got new freinds from his working admosphere, she keep on chatting, mailing with them whenever he got the time for that.

One day an un-expected mail came from a femail ID, the reply is “Your mails are nice & awesome, Keep in touch”, he wasnot able to understand who was she, later both were wrapped tightly, they got closer, they shared each other’s expectations and interests frankly. One day the girl declared her love sweetly thru an SMS. Now the hero got the confusion whether to accept or to deny the request. Over a deep thought and with doubtful conclusion he replied:”I  love you too dear”.

There started his terning point, when he came to know about her deeply about the background of her, he felt he had mistaken, since the girl was a rich & royal, because he feared that he could loss her as second time, which he could not tolerate in any time, he fainted a lot for this reason. One day he expressed his fear to her, she patiently consoled him with her medicinal and sweet words, then continued their voyage,

One day she gave him Bomb shock, She said: “interested in marriage only if the life will be a rich one, other wise you have to decide further”. Again the hero fainted for a week of time, then slowly he came from his faints and decided to become a big man, he planned to a business, but he didnt do that since it required a lump some amount which could not be able to him, and fought with her regarding her shock. But she replied very cool, “Dear am trying to bring you up in life, but you lazy fellow, still residing the deep poor well. Come on comeup, there is lot to achieve, dont give up yourself, you have the knowledge, will-power, so try to do something, Its also not possible for me to live without you. Hence try to understood me”.

Then he crushed his brain and decided to do a course in computer regarding to his field, the started studying SQL. Obviously he passed the exam in distinction and got the job in a city called “Bangalore,(Karnataka, India)”. He sharpened his talent and eligibility, By the goodness, he got the oppurtunity to go for “London”, as Database Administrator, after a 4 months of time, he explored his love secret to the family of his lady-love. as usuall in the beginning they started to object. but later after enquiring all the details like characteristics and behaviour and status, both family accepted for his love.

the lovers now living happily in North-London,

A crorepati who lives in a hut!

H
is story is an inspiration for millions. A self-made entrepreneur, his mission is to help the poor through job creation. E Sarathbabu hit the headlines after he rejected several high profile job offers from various MNCs after he passed out of IIM, Ahmedabad two years ago.

He instead started a catering business of his own, inspired by his mother who once sold idlis on the pavements of Chennai, worked as an ayah in an Anganvadi to educate him and his siblings. As a child, he also sold idlis in the slum where he lived. “We talk about India shining and India growing, but we should ensure that people do not die of hunger. We can be a developed country but we should not leave the poor people behind. I am worried for them because I know what hunger is and I still remember the days I was hungry,” says Sarathbabu.

In August 2006, Sarathbabu’s entrepreneurial dream came true with Foodking. He had no personal ambition but wanted to buy a house and a car for his mother. He has bought a car but is yet to buy a house for his mother. The “foodking” still lives in the same hut in Madipakkam in Chennai. Today, Foodking has six units and 200 employees, and the turnover of the company is Rs.32 lakh a month. But it has not been a bed of roses for Sarathbabu. After struggling and making losses in the first year, he managed a turnaround in 2007.

How has his experience as a ‘Foodking’ been in the last two years? Sarathbabu shares the trial and tribulations of an exciting and challenging job in an interview with Shobha Warrier.

A tough beginning
As I am a first generation entrepreneur, the first year was very challenging. I had a loan of Rs 20 lakh by the end of first year. I had no experience in handling people in business, and it was difficult to identify the right people. Though I made losses in the first year, not even once did I regret my decision of not accepting the offers from MNCs and starting an enterprise of my own. I looked at my losses as a learning experience. I was confident that I would be successful one day.

Sleeping on the railway platform
M
y first unit was at IIM, Ahmedabad. When we started our second unit in October 2006, I thought now I would start making money. But I made losses of around Rs 2000 a day. A first generation entrepreneur cannot afford such a loss. But I worked really hard, working till 3 a.m. in the morning. What reduced my losses were the birthday party offers.

I started the third unit again in Ahmedabad but it also made losses. All my units were cafeteria and I understood then that the small cafeterias do not work; I needed huge volumes to work. My friends who were extremely supportive in the first year when things were difficult for me. I had taken loans from my IIM-A friends. They were earning very well.

In December 2006, an IIM Ahmedabad alumni event took place in Mumbai and I decided to go there mainly to get a contract. I was hopeful of getting it. I also knew that if I got the huge contract, I would come out of all the losses I had been incurring.

I booked my train ticket from Ahmedabad to Mumbai for Rs 300 and I had Rs 200 in my hand. As the meet went on till late at night, I could reach the station only at midnight. I missed the train. I decided to sit on the platform till the morning and travel by the next train in the morning. I didn’t have the money to check into a hotel. I didn’t want to disturb any of my friends so late at night.

It was an unforgettable night as I was even shoved off by policemen from the platform. It was quite insulting and embarrassing. After two hours, people started moving in, I also went in.

A man who sat next to me on the platform gave me a newspaper so that I could sleep. I spread the newspaper and slept on the platform! I sleep well. I got my ticket refund in the morning and went back to Ahmedabad. And, luck did not favour me, I didn’t get the contract.

In March 2007, I got an offer to start a unit at BITS, Pilani (Sarathbabu was an alumnus of BITS, Pilani). That was the first medium break for me. For the first time, I started making profits there though the other units continued to make losses. The reason for our success at BITS, Pilani was the volume; there were more students and there was a need for a unit like ours while in Ahmedabad, they have at least a hundred options.

If I made Rs 5000 a day at Ahmedabad in two shifts, here I made Rs 15,000 a day. BITS, Pilani unit gave me the confidence to move on. Unless you make money, you can’t be confident in business.

What changed my fortune
W
hen all my friends who worked for various MNCs made good money every month and I made losses with my venture. But I kept telling myself, I am moving in the right direction to reach my ambition and vision. My dream was to provide employment and I was doing just that. I continued to work till 3 a.m. but I never felt tired.

Through BITS, Pilani, I got the BITS, Goa contract and that was the biggest break for me. It was not a cafeteria like the earlier ones but the dining hall that we got. We had to feed 1300 students. We started our operations in July 2007. At Rs 50, for 1300 students, our sales was Rs 65,000 per day. We soon started making a profit of Rs 10 to 15,000 a day. Around 60 to 70 people work there. I gave the charge of the Ahmedabad operations to one of my managers and moved to Goa.

I was still in debt by Rs 15-20 lakhs but I knew BITS, Goa would keep my dream alive. Within six months of starting our operations in Goa, I repaid all my debt.

I was called to give a speech at the SRM Deemed University. After the speech, I asked the Chancellor, can you give me an opportunity to serve in your campus? He said, “If not you, to whom will I give such an opportunity?” It’s a food court but a big one, similar to the one at BITS, Pilani. There are around 17,000 students there.

Now, I have the BITS, Hyderabad contract, ready to start in July 2008. Other than the six units, I have approached a few more universities and corporate houses too. In the first year, I had made a loss of Rs 25 lakh. Right now, we have a turnover of Rs 32 lakh every month, which works out to 3.5 crore (Rs 35 million) a year.

I have hired about 200 people. Indirectly, we touch the lives of around 1000 people. By this year end, we will have 500 people working for us. Only 10% of my workers are educated, the rest are uneducated. I want to make a change in their lives. If they have any problem, I will take care of it. We support the marriages and education of poor families. We are paying more to the employees as the company is doing well. Now that the foundation is strong, I plan to have ten units and a turnover of Rs 20 crore (Rs 200 million) turnover by next year.

His advice: Never give up!
I
n the last two years, I have given more than 120 lectures in various institutions in India. When I got the first opportunity to speak, I thought God had given me an opportunity to encourage or inspire entrepreneurs. When youngsters tell me they are inspired, I feel good.

When you just dish out the theory, nobody believes you. But when you do it, they believe you. What I tell them is based on my own experiences.

When I thought of starting a company, I felt India needed 100 people like Narayana Murthy and Ambani. If 100 such people support 2 lakh people each, imagine how many Indians get supported.

Entrepreneurship is needed to uplift the poor. It is not easy to be an entrepreneur, especially a first generation entrepreneur.

There will be lots of challenges in the beginning but you should learn to look for the light at the end of the tunnel.
Never give up even if there are hurdles. There are many who give up within a week.
You need determination and a tough mind to cross the initial hurdles.
If you are starting without much money, you should not have any overhead expenses.
He still lives in the same hut

As I am in the food business, I know how much the price of every food item has gone up. Many people will languish in poverty because of inflation. Had my mother been working as an Anganvadi ayah today and earning Rs 1500, she would not have been able to feed us and educate us.

On the one side, we talk about India shining and India growing, but we should ensure that people do not die of hunger. We can be a developed country but we should not leave the poor people behind. I am worried for them because I know what hunger is and I still remember the days I was hungry. That is why I feel it is our responsibility to take care of them.

I wanted to buy a car and a house for my mother. I bought a car first, not a house. I still live in the same house, the same hut. I can build a house right now but I want my business to grow a little more. I feel good in the hut; that’s where I get my energy, that’s where I lived 25 years of my life. I want to remind myself that the money and fame should not take me away from what I want to achieve.

But within six months, I will build a good house for my mother. Her only advice to me is, don’t waste money.
Till I was in the 10th, there was no electricity in my house. I had to sit near the kerosene lamp and concentrate hard. That’s how I learnt to concentrate.

The two year journey has been very enriching. It seems like a 20-year journey for me. I was living every moment of the two years, from sleeping on the Mumbai railway station platform to this level.
